Dachau Concentration Camp prisoners in a barracks room after liberation

This picture, taken after American soldiers liberated the Dachau Concentration Camp, shows the crowded conditions of the barracks. The men in the center aisle are standing up, so you can tell that there is another lower tier of bunks not shown in the picture. According to Marcus J. Smith in his book "The Harrowing of Hell", these bunks were 32 inches wide and 7 feet long and there were no mattresses. Notice the helmet of an American soldier in the center of the picture, who is flanked by a civilian in a hat and another hatless man to his right, both of whom appear to be Americans touring the camp.
