Braunau am Inn, Hitler's birthplace
This old drawing of the town of Braunau am Inn hangs on the wall of the Hotel Post where I stayed. It shows the bridge across the Inn river and a wall around the town. The large building to the right, across the bridge, is the Vequelhaus which is still standing. Note the tall Gothic spire of St. Stephan's church. This view is looking towards the south bank of the Inn river which flows east.
This view shows the entrance to the city from the bridge over the Inn river. Only a little bit of the former town wall remains; it cannot be seen in this photo. After crossing the bridge, you enter the town on the Stadtplatz, a wide street that is the equivalent of the town square in a typical German town.
